Q. What if my insurance doesn’t pay for vaccines?

1. The Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) covers from birth-18 years of age who are Medicaid enrolled, no health insurance, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Under-insured. 


2.   South Carolina State Vaccine Program Insured Hardship— Has insurance but does not include vaccines

Q. How can I get a copy of my child’s immunizations.

  1. Immunizations records will be provided upon request by contacting the office location where your child receives his well care.

Daycare centers and schools require a specific form that must be completed by the practice. We ask for an advance notice of 48 hours as there are particular times of the year that the volume of requests is high.

Because of privacy and confidentiality laws, we cannot fax immunizations records. They must be picked up in person. 

Q. What if I need a copy of my child’s medical records?

Please allow 48 hours for copies of any type of medical records. One copy will be provided free to you or another practice. Only copies of our office records will be provided.  

Q. What if I can’t keep an appointment?

We ask that you give a 24 hour notice of canceling an appointment. Especially during the fall and winter seasons, many children are ill and your courtesy to cancel will allow us to see other children in need. No cancellation of your appointment could result in a $25 charge. 

Q. My child’s ADHD prescription needs to be refilled. What do I need to do?

Please call the office and leave the appropriate information necessary to assist you with this matter. This does require a follow up appointment and you will be able to pick up medication at your pharmacy. 24-48 hour notice is required.

Q. What if my child needs to be hospitalized?

A. Unfortunately, it may be necessary for your child to be hospitalized for an illness or condition that cannot be handled in the office setting. In those situations, the child will usually be admitted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center unless the condition is such that one our physicians recommends admission to a pediatric specific care facility such as the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.

Q. My child came home today and decided he wants to participate in an extracurricular activity at school that requires a physical examination. How soon can I get an appointment for him/her?

1. The months, May through August are the best times of year to schedule an appointment so that well children are not exposed to the many sick children seen during the fall and winter months.

Extracurricular activities should not be the only reason for a physical examination. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children under 2 years received exams at 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months and 18 months not only for immunizations but also to check growth and development. Children aged 3 years to 6 years should receive a yearly exam. Children aged 7 years and older usually receive an exam every year (annually), but one can be done more frequently if there is a condition that necessitates it.

The state of South Carolina mandates that a child participating in extracurricular activity receive a physical examination after April 1st to ensure it will be valid through the entire school year.
